Like its predecessor Drain Fafnir 8 Nothing, Geist Fafnir 8' Absorb and Geist Fafnir 8'Proof Absorb, Wizard Fafnir's name is based off of Fafnir, a son of the dwarf king Hreidmar, in Norse mythology. While the sharp tip would imply high Stamina, the aforementioned plate nullifies any Stamina benefit and instead the plate is placed so low that it creates a high scrape risk. However, the relatively smooth rim of the plate and its non-free spin nature makes greater Stamina loss and the small diameter of the tip does little to stop the Beyblade. In practice however, the vertical movement prevents the plate from Stabilizing a Combination on the shallow curvature of the stadium and because the plate does not spin freely, it causes the Beyblade to lose stamina instead of recovering which worsens Stamina. In theory the plate is meant to make contact with the stadium floor when the Beyblade is struck, forcing it back upright, acting as brakes to prevent a Knock-Out. Rise features a sharp tip surrounded by a downward facing plate that is not free spinning. Performance Tip - Rise Main article: Performance Tip - Rise In a same spin matchup, Takara Tomy's Sting is recommended instead. However, the low-hanging nature of Ratchet renders it only useful in opposite spin matchups, as in same spin matchups, Ratchet has the potential to scrape the stadium floor. This allows Performance Tips such as Bearing', Drift, and Mobius to be used to great effect with Ratchet, as the lower center of gravity means the Performance Tips will be able to tilt longer and Spin-Equalize more effectively. Ratchet finds the most use in Spin-Equalization Combinations in opposite spin matchups, as it hangs rather low. In addition, Ratchet has better weight distribution than Hurricane, allowing it to find more use. Its gimmick is similar to that of Takara Tomy's Hurricane, but it can only spin in one direction, unlike Hurricane. However, in practice, the plastic piece has little to no effect as it is too small to come into any contact unless Disc-to-Layer contact occurs. The plastic piece locks in place against a Right-Spin opponent and spins freely against a Left-Spin opponent, akin to the Tornado Wyvern Energy Layer, to theoretically help with Spin-Equalization and shock absorption. Ratchet is a round Forge Disc that consists of a metal core and plastic piece. Hasbro's Wizard is virtually unchanged from Takara Tomy's Wizard, but manufactured with weaker materials.įorge Disc - Ratchet Main article: Forge Disc - Ratchet However, if the opponent has greater Burst Resistance than Wizard, the friction of the rubber can cause a Wizard Combination to Self-Burst or severely lose Stamina. If the opponent has less Burst Resistance than Wizard, then the friction can potentially Burst the opponent. When against a left-spin opponent, Wizard cannot equalize spin and the rubber will instead act as brakes. Due to the greater exposed surface area of the rubber, the effect is more prominent than in Drain Fafnir, though the greater weight makes the effect far less pronounced against lightweight opponents. When spinning slower than a right-spin opponent, the rubber "F"s of Wizard allows for Spin-Equalization, where the Layers of two opposite spinning Beyblades work akin to gears and equally distribute their spin. While the triangular shape and rough perimeter of Wizard may imply recoil, the left-spin nature of this Layer reduces recoil against a right-spin opponent. Like its predecessors in the Fafnir line of Layers, Wizard features rubber in the shape of "F"s along its circumference. Wizard, like its predecessor Geist Fafnir, is a left-spin Stamina Type Layer Base that features a triangular perimeter and three side profile dragon heads with an "F" along each, meant to represent Fafnir, son of the dwarf king Hreidmar. Its average Burst Resistance is due to its four standard locks. Fafnir has a standard weight for Gatinko Chips, and average Burst Resistance. The two dragons' claws grip the center hole of the Gatinko Chip.
